We all know that retail chains have their post holiday sales but weaving your way through the maze of online stores that have post holiday sales, discounts and special offers can be a little nerve-wracking. Whether you are surfing for an iPod for Aunt Alice, winter boots for little Johnny or a surfboard for yourself … read on so you can save time, money and headaches.

Before you look for coupons, find the product or products and the store that you want to purchase it from. Once you’ve identified the product you want, you need to find the coupon that saves you the most. Fortunately, there are tons of websites that provide hundreds of coupons. So you found the product that you want but you have never heard of the online store that is selling it. There are a lot of places to research websites and make sure they are reputible places to shop. Of course the Better Business Bureau is one but you can also look at Shopzilla.com, SiteAdvisor.com or ConsumerConfidence.net. Here is another quick tip I like to use when shopping ... see if the website has a valid phone number posted. This isn’t a surefire method but it is pretty safe to say that scam websites aren’t going to post their phone numbers.
Before you checkout, check the cost of shipping. Many websites offer free shipping when you spend a certain amount of money. Sometimes it makes sense to purchase an extra item just to get the free shipping discount. Free shipping deals like this is just one of the benefits of shopping at larger websites where you can purchase a wide variety of products.
For now, websites only charge tax for in state purchases (determined by where you are shipping to), so you may need to eliminate that local company if you want to save money on tax. This may change soon, but for now, taxes can provide additional savings.
Don’t assume that an expired coupon really is invalid. After the holidays, many retail stores intentionally leave their coupons live through the end of the month. If you can’t find an active coupon that you want there is no harm in giving an expired one a try.
Don’t give up so easily if you can’t find the coupon you want, simply go to Google and type in "XYZ Store Coupon" and see what you come back with. Remember, you may need to do a little work to get the discount that you want.
