Star Reviews' Favorite DVD Avenue Feature:

We like the fact that DVD Avenue has member reviews available on its site. Since you can't always tell whether or not a movie is good by the things the critics have to say, member reviews can give some helpful insight as to whether a certain title is worth renting.

The DVD Avenue Experience:

Unlike some of the smaller online DVD rental websites, DVD Avenue was polished and easy to navigate. The sign-up process consisted of filling out a four-step form and browsing the available titles couldn't have been easier. That being said, there are a few things we would have liked to see done differently.

First, there's the whole free trial thing. DVD Avenue doesn't offer one. Almost every DVD rental site on the Web offers a free trial of at least two weeks, so we were disappointed that DVD Avenue did not. It makes us question the quality of service when a rental site doesn't want to offer customers an initial trial period. What's even more concerning is that there's no pro-rated refunds if you decide to cancel your service. You can sign up, pay your full month in advance and the next day decide the service is horrible and you want to cancel. You're out every penny you paid since the company won't issue a refund for cancellations.

The other thing we noticed about DVD Avenue is the fact that the title selection isn't as good as that offered by some of the larger sites. Netflix has more than 100,000 titles to choose from. Blockbuster has about 80,000. These numbers make DVD Avenue's 25,000 titles look paltry by comparison

DVD Avenue Customer Service:

DVD Avenue offers customer service via email. Unfortunately, it didn't really help. As of the writing of this review, DVD Avenue hadn't responded to our email support request. We would have liked to see live phone support or at least email support that got back to us promptly.

Upside:

Members can review movies and read others' reviews, four different plans to choose from.

Downside:

Poor customer service, small title selection.
