Three Things To Look For In a Fixed APR Credit Card

When it comes to looking for a credit card with a great interest rate, only a fixed APR credit card will do. However, not all fixed APR credit cards are created equal, and once you sign up and start charging you're locked into the terms of the card you choose. How can you be sure you're selecting the card that's right for you? Here are three things to look for:

1. Compare What's Out There
Credit cards can range from good to ugly and everything in between. You can't very well try each and every one of them out for yourself. That's why it's important to do your research, and the Web is the perfect place for it. Google the name of the card you're thinking of signing up for or check out sites like Star Reviews, a research and review site that provides information on the different fixed APR credit cards available.

2. Ignore the Teasers
First and foremost, ignore the "teaser" rates many cards use to lure you in. Even fixed APR credit card offers can hide them. You think you're getting a fixed rate of 3.99 percent, but in reality that rate is only good for the first six months. After that the rate goes up to the "real" fixed APR of 9.99 percent.

While 9.99 percent may not be a bad fixed rate, it's definitely not the 3.99 percent you had originally signed up for. Check the terms of service carefully when filling out the application. The actual fixed APR will be listed in there.

3. Check for Annual Fees
Sometimes a low fixed APR will be offset by high annual fees. In reality, the cost of these fees can negate any benefit you'd be getting from the fixed APR. Before you sign up for any fixed APR credit card make sure there are no annual fees. Today's credit card market is competitive enough that you should be able to find a card with no annual fees in addition to a low fixed rate.
