It used to be that a person had to drive to the local video store to rent or buy the movie they wanted to see. Nowadays, thanks to the Internet, almost every movie you've ever wanted to rent is available with just the click of your mouse. Vongo is one of the services our team decided to look at, and we liked it right off the bat. The findings of our experience are outlined in the review below.
What's New with Vongo Movie Download?
- Free 14-day trial
- Now compatible with Windows Vista.
- Access to Starz Live Feed.
Star Reviews Favorite Movie Download Feature:
We found the "library" feature to be very useful for organizing the movies we had downloaded. We also really liked that we had the ability to watch the trailers for the movies we were interested in
Movie Selection:
Vongo has a great selection of movies. There are countless titles available from mainstream cinema to episodes of your favorite television shows.
How Vongo Works
Vongo is a subscription-based movie download service. To begin using Vongo, you need to download and install the Vongo software, which allows you to download as many Vongo subscription-level movies as you want (and pay-per-view movies too). Once you have downloaded the Vongo software, you can browse the Vongo catalog, which will give you descriptions of the movies you can download and will also recommend movies based on your viewing habits. Once you download a movie, you can watch it as many times as you want.
It took us about ten minutes to download the Vongo software and get it installed on our PC. Once Vongo was up and running, browsing for the movies we wanted to download was easy and we were able to view trailers for each of the movies we were interested in. We did, however, run into some trouble when it came to actually downloading the movies.
The first two times we tried to download a movie, we had to restart the Vongo application due to an error message. Then, when we did get the download to start, it took almost four hours to download the entire movie. Other than that, the entire process was relatively painless.
Computer Requirements:
- A U.S.-based Internet address
- A broadband connection with a download speed of 100 kilobytes per second or higher for pay-per-view movies and/or a 300 kilobytes per second or higher for Vongo Membership movies
- Windows Media Player 9 or higher
Pricing Plan:
- Vongo is currently offering a free 14-day trial.
- A subscription to Vongo is $9.99 per month.
- Pay-per-view movies, which incur costs in addition to the subscription fees, start at $1.99.
- If you don't want to pay for the subscription, you can rent movies from Vongo for $3.99 per rental (with a 24-hour access period).
Customer Support:
Help is available via an automated computer chat program. By entering your questions into the “Ask Vongo” interface, you'll get automated answers related to the information you ask for. We asked “Ask Vongo” two separate questions and got comprehensive and helpful answers to both of them instantaneously.
Upside:
Easy to use. Instant-access to thousands of movies for a lot less than how much renting each one separately would cost.
Downside:
Many of the most popular movie downloads are not included in the subscription fee and cost additional money. Live support isn't really available, just the automated “Ask Vongo” interface.
Summary:
We really liked Vongo's simplicity and resourceful site feel. We didn't feel overwhelmed or confused by the site, which we commend them for. It's easy to use and very affordable, at $9.95 a month if you choose to sign up as a member after your two-week free trial. One problem we came across-not all of the newest and most popular flicks are included in the cost of subscription, which we would have liked to see. But, if you have Windows Vista or want access to Starz Live Feed, Vongo's got you covered.
