The BitDefender Internet Security Suite 2009 Experience:
We didn't run into a single problem when downloading and installing the BitDefender product. If you're a novice, we suggest leaving it at the default installation settings. It will make the product much easier to use. If, however, you have advanced needs and can work your way around the inside features of the software there's more than enough customization here to meet your needs.
The program itself was very effective. It caught all intrusion attempts and even let us know when someone was trying to access our Wi-Fi network. Not all Internet security suites offer Wi-Fi monitoring and if you have a wireless network in your home or office, this feature is definitely something to look for.
We also liked the fact that BitDefender now encrypts your instant messages. No more wondering exactly who can see what you talk about during your IM sessions. BitDefender prevents unauthorized eyes from viewing what's been discussed.
The only problem we encountered when using BitDefender was the fact that it seems to make your system drag when it's running scans. When the software is running in the background there is little to no problem, but when tasks like scans come into play, the efficiency of your computer is going to suffer until the task is over.

When we called the company we got access to a rep within minutes and were able to get to the bottom of our questions quickly and without hassle. Email support was also impressive, getting back to us the very next day. Overall we have to say we were quite impressed by the level of excellence offered by the BitDefender support team.
Upside:
Great customer support, affordable pricing, easy to use.
Downside:
Significant system slowdown when certain tasks are running.

| I've had Bitdefender for a year and am not pleased with the product. I have constantly had problems with Bitdefender not responding. I have uninstalled and reinstalled it numerous times. I constantly get warnings that it needs to be scanned after it was just scanned. The latest is that bitdefender tells me that I still have 265 days left in my subscription when I know that it will expire in about 10 days. I wonder if I have been protected properly over the past year. I'm glad to be rid of it. I would happily include my username if I could figure out what it is. |

| I have the BitDefender Total Security software and the first time I called them I got through in a reasonable length of time (about 10 minutes or so), but in the last couple of days, things have changed drastically. The technical support service itself is included in the price of the software, but be aware of the fact that the number you call is NOT toll-free. I got through after a 40 minute wait and spoke with a technical support rep who gave me instructions to follow, then contact them again. I have now tried for two days to finish this, but was cut off (without speaking to anyone) three times yesterday after waiting, 6 minutes, 32 minutes and 58 minutes. I tried today with similar results (cut off after 24 minutes, 31 minutes and 16 minutes). I have now sent an email inquiry to Customer Service about the situation. I do not like the online "Chat", and would much prefer to speak to a person, bcause they will be walking me through some rather involved settings changes. I purchased this software because of the combination of effectiveness reported and the quality of customer/technical support they were supposed to provide. This will be my first and last purchase of anything from BitDefender. |
