After first announcing that they lost $2.5 billion, are closing plants and laying off around 16,000 workers, Sony decided it was time to close up their flagship store in downtown San Francisco. Thier lease is up mid-June and they have stated they will not be renewing.

Looks like Microsoft will fill the void left by Sony as they are planning on opening their own super stores in order to boost sales of hardware and software. The folks over at Microsoft have been known to copy Apple and it appears they are doing it once agian. Probably won't be any stores up soon, but plans are in the works.
In the meantime, fear not gamers there are still plenty of online video game rental sites for you to get your fix. GameFly is my favorite. They have a free trial and plans as low $8.95 per month.
Looks like the recession is taking its toll everywhere, and the video game industry isn't immune.
