Prior to the Zicam Challenge, my wife had been sick for a couple of days. Nose, throat, headache and achy. I did my best to avoid her but I guess the morning kiss goodbye on the way to the office took its toll.
Day 1
I worked out at around 7PM and felt incredibly weak and tired. My trainer and I assumed that I ate lunch to early and I didn't have enough food in me. I came home and ate a full meal but quickly fell asleep at around 9:30 (at the time, I assumed the Presidents speech was boring me to sleep) and slept straight through until 5:30AM which is about when I usually wake up.
Day 2
I felt fine when I woke up but started to notice my throat was scratchy and I had a headache. Over the next few hours I declined rapidly and was tired with a headache and just generally felt crappy. I Went to CVS and got the Zicam spray and took it for the first time around 10AM.
Just a separate note, it is opening day for the Mets Spring Training so I am going. Not what I would normally do when I was sick ... but it is opening day.
About an hour after the initial spray - my mouth and throat feel almost as if I had some topical cream that they give you at the dentist ... numbs/tingles a little bit. I continue to take the Zicam spray through the rest of the day and into the night. I was really expecting the cold to hit me hard as I felt pretty crappy in the morning. I had Jewish penicillin (matzoh ball soup) when I got home and was asleep by 9PM.
Day 3
I woke up around 6AM and immediatley took the Zicam spray and have continued to do so throughout this day. Overall I feel okay and as the day as gone on I have continued to feel a little better.

The Zicam Challenge Summary
I am not a doctor (and I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn Express either) and I am not 100% sure that I would have gotten sicker without the Zicam but I really had the feeling that by 3PM on day two I was going to be home and in bed. That never occured and I have slowly felt better as day 3 has gone. Overall, while my wife was sick for 3 and a half days, I never got to the point where I couldn't function at the office and I have recovered quickly.
I am not sure that I should give Zicam the credit but I am sure I will be keeping Zicam in the medicine cabinet for the next time. Zicam wins the Zicam Challenge!
