Here is the latest threat by online scammers but this one is actually getting people who are trying to rip off Microsoft by placing trojans in Windows 7. This is targeting Torrent and P2P sharing websites and the infected files are "leaked" versions of Windows 7. Cybercriminals have taken leaked versions of the soon to be released operating system Windows 7 and have attached malicious Trojans to them designed to steal your personal information. This threat is related exclusively to P2P and Torrent sites and is not believe to be related to downloads via the Microsoft website.
As usual, like I need to keep reminding you of this, 1) make sure you have active and update virus protection and spyware protection, 2) do NOT download files from file sharing or Torrent sites and 3) don’t click on links in emails or IMs (type in the URL in your browser).
On a side not, Microsoft has a running offer of $250,000 for anyone who turns in various cybercriminals. Since the bad guys are targeting people who are trying to steal from Microsoft if Mr. Softee will really go after this group of cybercriminals? Yes, I am sure they will … because the cybercriminals will be off to something else once this scam slows. It was just a thought.
