Namco Bandi announced the release of Soul Calibur: Broken Destiny, for the Play Station Portable, on April 28, 2009. This is the first time the popular one-on-one fighter will be available on a hand held gaming system, and from the looks of the trailer, the game play will not disappoint.
Soul Calibur: Broken Destiny is basically Soul Calibur 4 on the PSP, but with a few little tweaks. The game will still have tons of customizable content, and all the classic characters from the Soul Calibur family are playable. The difference is instead of having guest characters from Star Wars, you are able to fight for the Soul Edge as Sony’s poster boy for uncontrollable, mythological rage, Kratos. If you aren’t sure who Kratos is, pick up a copy of "God of War" for the PS2, or face missing out on one of the most classic video game icons of the last ten years.
Game play also remains, for the most part, unchanged. The "Training" mode is a great place to start, no matter what your skill level. This is especially true if you are not accustomed to playing video games on a hand held device. "Quick Match" is still the mode to choose if you want to play against the game’s arsenal of computer generated opponents. The game’s story mode is called "The Gauntlet", and comes equipped with a more tutorial like feel, making game play more accessible to novice players. There are three “Trials” that will test your skill level, and no Soul Calibur game would be complete with the ever popular "Versus" mode.

The Soul franchise began in arcades in 1996. The first installment, Soul Edge, featured Mitsurugi, Taki, Voldo, and a host of other characters that are still being played by millions of fans around the world to this day.
Soul Calibur: Broken Destiny is no exception. Soul Calibur games are not complicated, and can be played by persons of every skill level. Mastering the game, on the other hand, is quite a different story. Yes, you can be a button masher, and you will win a few matches. But the true beauty of the game play cannot be discovered unless you take the time to learn the correct way to beat your opponent in two hits with Asteroth.
It will be very interesting to see how well the game play transfers over to the PSP. The release date is set for September 1, 2009. Hopefully, fan boys will over look the smaller screen and less polished graphics, and find the pure joy that will come from winning the
Soul Edge from Nightmare one more time.
