Following in the heels of the hugely successful Cash for Clunkers program, Toys R' Us has announced their own version, The Great Trade-In Event.
The event will allow consumers to save 20% off the purchase of a new car seat, stroller, travel system, high chair, play yard, bassinet or crib by turning in a used one. The program will run from Friday, August 28 through Sunday September 20 and will available nationwide. Although limited to U.S. stores only, expansion into Canada could come if the program is successful.
The Great Trade-In Event is focused as much around safety as it is savings. Toys R' Us is concerned that older, used products may not be the best bet for keeping children safe. Pulling a first child's car seat out of the back of the garage or getting a hand me down crib may seem like a great idea for saving money. However, with the vast amount of recalls for these items and advances in product safety standards, using older baby items may just be putting your baby at risk.

Rather than take that chance Toys R' Us is hoping consumers will get the latest and safest technology available for keeping their children safe. Just bring in an old item and get 20% off a new one. Any brand can be brought into Toys R' Us to claim the discount. Babi Italia, Baby Caché, Baby Trend, Bertini, Britax, Chicco, Contours by Kolcraft, Cosco, Delta, Eddie Bauer, Evenflo, Graco, Jeep, Natures Purest by Summer Infant, Safety 1st, and Sorelle complet the list brands to which the discount can be applied to.
The Great Trade-In Event is even open to day care centers and other organizations that wish to make bulk trade-ins. Toys R' Us is encouraging these types of facilities to contact their local Babies R' Us or Toys R' Us to make arrangements and ensure availability of new mechandise.
