If you’re getting married in the summer you’ve made a great choice, it’s a beautiful time of year to say “I do.” However like all seasons there are some special things you’ll need to consider while party planning in order to make sure your day is just how you want it and everyone has a good time. The last thing you want is for someone to faint during the ceremony from the heat, your make-up to run during the first dance or another unexpected event to make your day less than perfect. Here are some things for you to consider when planning a summer wedding.

Provide shade
The sun can get to a person really quick so if it’s an outdoor wedding or reception make sure there is plenty of shade for people to retreat to in order to get a break from the sun. This may be some umbrellas or a canopy or tent area for guests to wait in. Or this could be a separate building or room with fans where those who really need the break the most (elderly, pregnant, small children) can rest for a few minutes.
Have drinks provided before the ceremony
Most weddings make people wait to eat or drink anything until after the ceremony but if it’s summer you should have non-alcoholic drinks available to guests before the ceremony even starts. This is especially true if the wedding starts late or is quite long and guests arrive early and have to wait a long time before the reception. When making your
party plan, make sure you always have water available.
Think about bugs
If the wedding is outdoors in a wooded area or near a lake you may have a problem with bugs. Set out citronella candles on the reception tables and if possible spray big repellant all around the perimeter of the main wedding area where guests will be. This will help prevent guests from being attacked by bugs on your special day.
Have a back-up plan for rain
It’s summer but you never know when that random rain shower will hit. Have a back-up
wedding plan of where the ceremony and reception can be moved to in the event that rain starts pouring down on your wedding day.
Use a powder finish make-up
The sun, humidity and heat can play tricks on your face and make perfecting your make-up look quite difficult. Use your regular make-up then cover with a matte finishing powder as this will remove the shine that is brought out from the heat. Reapply through the night as necessary although you likely won’t have to do it more than twice at the most.
Think carefully about your favors and centerpieces
Avoid using chocolate or other products that will melt as your favors as the heat may get to them and make more of a mess than a treat for your guests. Also think about your centerpieces, edible fruit arrangements are beautiful and delicious but if the reception is outside the fruit may spoil too quickly. Same goes for ice sculptures and even flowers.
Keep your flowers out of the sun
The flowers used in weddings are cut flowers so they depend on the water they are stored in to stay fresh. Thus constant exposure to direct sunlight and a lack of water can wilt and kill your flower arrangements. Choose sturdy flowers that don’t wilt easily or make sure your flowers are all out of the sun and kept in water.
