Baseball
Tied for the most popular of all fantasy sports this one takes the most time. There are so many baseball games a year that in order to be at the top of your
fantasy game you need to watch most it not all of them to see how your players are performing and where you need to make changes in your roster. This is extremely time consuming but if you enjoy baseball this is perfect for you because you’ll become so involved you’ll know every player’s stats by heart.
Football
Tied with baseball for the most popular
fantasy sport this one is a much shorter season but because of that every little choice really counts. One or two bad weeks could kill your standings in the league while a couple bad weeks in baseball will have little to no effect overall on your standings in the long run. People prep for this
fantasy sport months in advance watching all the pre-season training, trades and such. You have to really know and understand football to do well in this one.
Hockey
It’s picking up some steam as a
popular fantasy sport an is usually played by the most die hard of fans who sit at their computers and scream with every little brawl that occurs on the ice. Fantasy hockey is tricky to figure out so if you’re not already a fan then this one isn’t likely a good choice for you.
Basketball
All those NBA fans out there get ready for an action packed season on the court but the
fantasy world doesn’t have as many fans. Actually college basketball seems to get more action then the NBA so if you follow college ball you might have just found your new hobby.
Racing
All sorts of auto racing have their own
fantasy leagues and you can choose your favorite drivers or motor teams weekly then wait patiently through hundreds of laps as you wait to see if they wreck or cross the finish line first. It’s fun and since it’s more individual anything could happen.
Fishing
Yes there is a professional fishing world and actually it’s becoming pretty popular. This fantasy sport is one of the best because it’s free to join through the FLW Outdoors who sponsors the league and you can win actual money for finishing well each tournament. This is for casual sports fans as you only have to participate once a month since the tournaments in the
fantasy league are only once a month. All you do is pick the anglers you think will finish in the top ten and earn points for all those you get correct. The grand prize each month is one hundred thousand dollars! (also read this article about
Fishing Leagues)
Golf
Tour fans get prepared to watch your golfers take on new courses. Like fishing you pick individuals and their standings in the tournaments so you really never know what will happen if someone happens to have a couple off days and an unknown rises to the ranks of the elite.
Boxing and MMA (Mixed Martial Arts)
A complicated
fantasy sport because the fights are so sporadic and rarely do the same two people fight each other again within the span of a year so you have to know each fighter’s abilities, strengths and weaknesses and understand their training to make accurate picks.
Soccer
Although not a big sport in the United States there are still plenty of soccer fans out there. Track your favorite teams, countries or even individual matches. There are a couple leagues and they each set things up differently so you’ll have to investigate the options and choose accordingly.
Other cycling, skiing, and horse racing. These all have their own little leagues and each is specialized to fans of those sports. They have their good and bad points just like all the others. They simply aren’t as popular as the rest.
Many of these can be played for free on Yahoo Sports, CBS Sports, Fantasy Sports Live as well as numerous other sites supporting fantasy play.
