Today I will be reviewing the new addition to the Apple line of mobile phones, The Apple iPhone 3G S. The Apple iPhone 3G S is the third generation iPhone and the S is for speed. Does it live up to the hype? What is the difference between this iPhone and the previous versions? Is it worth upgrading your cellphone service? Techcrunch has some questions about AT&Ts ability to support the iPhone but we have our own opinion. I will try my best to answer these and other questions that may come to mind. The iPhone 3G S was released on June 19th, 2009 and if you did not go stand in line early that morning or preorder online at least a month before the launch date chances are you did not get an iPhone on the 19th. I waited a little less than a week for mine and it was definitely worth the wait.
The new iPhone has a couple of serious improvements most noticeably the new price tag. A 16 GB iPhone will cost you $199 while a 32 GB iPhone is $299 with a 2 year contract with AT&T, no mail in rebate involved. The 2nd generation iPhone has had a price reduction as well, it currently retails at $99 with a 2 year contract. The iPhone 3G S has had an upgrade from the graphics capabilities of an OpenGL ES 1.1 to an OpenGL ES 2.0. It now has a much needed ability to record video which its predecessors do not have. The iPhone 3G S has upgraded from a 2 MP (megapixel) camera to a 3 MP camera. This is not that great of an improvement considering that there are smart phones out there with 8 MP cameras but to me this is not a deal breaker considering that I never really used my phone to record videos. The 2nd generation iPhone had a 412 MHz ARM processor, while the 3G S was given a 600 MHz ARM 11 processor and yes, there is a noticeable increase in speed on the device. Voice control is also a newly added feature to the iPhone 3G S. Voice control allows you to dial a name or speak out a phone number as well as play an artist or song in your musical library. The iPhone 3G S also has an increased speed in HSDPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Access), previous versions had a 3.6 Mbps HSDPA while the new iPhone has a 7.2 Mbps HSDPA. Just to make that last part clear the speed of HSDPA affects the speed in which internet pages load on your mobile phone making the new iPhone web browser 2X’s faster than previous versions. The new iPhone 3G S also has s slightly better battery life then the 1st and 2nd Generation iPhones. The iPhone 3G S comes with a water and oil resistant finish which means you will be able to enjoy your phone more and have to keep cleaning the screen of fingerprints less.
For those of you that own other smart phones and are hesitant to get an iPhone because you don’t think that you can live without an actual keyboard to type on, trust me, I was just like you and I actually find it much easier to type now than before. The iPhone has a ton of free apps, there is literally an app for anything you can think off and according to TechCrunch, the apps for iPhones far surpass the quality of the apps for any other mobile phone and are approaching the quality of console games. There is a grocery list app that allows you to create a grocery list and it then learns the order in which you check off things from the list and organizes the list in the order in which you check off items. There is an app that keeps track of all the food you eat and adds up your daily caloric intake. Forgot the name of that song playing on the radio? No problem there is an app where you can hold your iPhone up to the speaker and from what it hears it can give you the name and title of the song. State Farm even has an app on the iPhone, get into a fender bender? No problem, start a claim from your iPhone. The new iPhone 3G S is truly an amazing piece of equipment and I cannot see myself ever using another phone and this is probably why Techcrunch is reporting that Apple sold twice as many iPhones as they did iMacs.
What is the actual quality of the phone calls recieved or made
