Social networking is big business, and I for one would take Facebook over Twitter any day. I love the idea of staying connected with my sister in Washington or an old friend who lives in Jamaica. I don’t enjoy some Facebook traits that people on my friends list annoy me with on a daily basis. I’m sure many of you out there share my concerns and in that spirit, here is a list of the Top 5 most irritating Facebook habits. Any of you out there who commit these acts of aggravation, please do your friends and family a big favor and stop today.
5. Sending event invitations that cannot possibly be considered. I have a friend who is constantly giving me invitations to meetings, gatherings, and get-togethers that are taking place 1,000 miles from where I am currently residing. Honestly, what is the point? We both know I will not be attending, and the request will be ignored. Save your fingers the strain, and my brain the vexation, and only invite me to happenings in walking distance from my house.
4. Farkle chip requests. For those of you unacquainted with Farkle, it is a game that resembles Yahtzee, but is 10,000 times more infuriating. I played this life distraction for a sum total of one week. That was 3 months ago, and I have received 2-3 Farkle chip gift requests daily ever since. I do not like the game, and I would really appreciate everyone stopping this incessant gift giving immediately.
3. Cryptic posts. I have a friend who will give small pieces of information that will keep you guessing for the rest of the day. He, or she, will post messages such as: "Life gave me lemons, so I made lemonade", or "Having trouble with an important event, will keep you posted". Please say what you mean in plain English or if it is that personal, do not mention it on a site that has millions of members.
2. People with over 1,000 friends. This is just ridiculous. I am aware that this doesn’t have any tangible effect on my Facebook account, but it just irritates me indirectly. No one has that many close, personal friends or family members. 75% of these "friends" are more than likely passing strangers that you offered a friend request to after a five minute meeting to make it appear you are the most popular person on Earth. Here is a little insight: we’re all aware of what you are doing, and it is just sad. I would rather have my husband, sisters, and two best friends on my list than 15,000 mere acquaintances any day.
1. Posting every random thought. This gets me more than the last four complaints combined. I do not need to be made aware of every inane idea or quirky observation 15-20 times a day. Give some pertinent information about a big idea or important happenings in your life, and leave it at that. On that note, I won’t take up any more of your time, and besides, you’re probably leaving to check your own status anyway!
