The ninth season of American Idol is upon us with auditions starting in Denver last Friday. Paula Abdul who has been with the show for seven of those, was not on the Judging panel and Victoria Beckham has stepped in as a Guest Judge.
Victoria (aka Posh Spice), for those who’ve had their heads buried in the sands for the last decade or so, is married to David Beckham (Ex England Football Captain).

The glamour couple, who received an American reception of royal proportions back in 2007 when David signed up for a 5 year deal with Los Angeles Galaxy, seem to be encountering many ups and downs with the local supporters which appeared to hit boiling point when he tried to extend his time with Milan in March. Then again, if somebody offered me in the region of $25 million to stay put for 5 years and kick an inflated leather ball around a field, I think I would be inclined to do as I was asked, and not disappear off overseas to earn some extra cash and inevitably wear myself out for my primary job. But then as you can probably gather I am not a football fan and have always favoured the sport of playing with an odd shaped ball i.e. Rugby
So, is this latest role something
Simon Cowell has laid on for
Victoria Beckham in order to get her back into the UK spotlight prior to any move, or is she actually up to the job of being an
American Idol judge? As a suspicious individual, whilst I can’t yet answer the former, I have every reason to believe that an exit strategy is under way; The
American Idol show is aired regularly on UK Television and will certainly bring the attention of both
Victoria Beckham and
American Idol fans flocking in…The Los Angeles Galaxy contract is currently in its third of five years for David Beckham and he must be, with all the best will in the world, wondering what to do and where to go next.
Either way, I must say "nice one" to Simon Cowell ... who will win either way as his show’s ratings shoot back up through the stratosphere again.
Good luck to
American Idol and good luck to
Victoria Beckham ... in terms of musical critique I am unsure whether this new role will be a good one for her ... but like many others I may put aside some time to tune in to find out!
