There are so many different styles and looks that a woman can achieve when she applies eyeliner. Eyeliner is a great way to define the eyes and add some interest to your face with makeup. There are so many different techniques when it comes to applying eyeliner. Here are some different tips and techniques to try next time you apply eyeliner.
Before you even touch your eyeliner you need to decide what type of look you are going for. Do you want an intense or smoky eye? Do you just want to highlight your eye? Or maybe you want to get a Goth look and go for a real dark eye. Decide what type of look you are trying to accomplish and it will be much easier to accomplish the desired look and be satisfied with it.
Pencil eyeliners are easier to control and are best for beginners when it comes to eyeliner. Liquid eyeliners can be hard to get right on your eye and can smudge very easily. Some people prefer the look of liquid eyeliner over a pencil for a more dramatic eye. It is up to you what type of eyeliner you choose but remember that liquid eyeliner will take you longer to perfect.
If you have wide set eyes and want to make them appear closer together, emphasize the inner corners of the eyes. Simply use the eyeliner only in the inner corners of the top and bottom lid and your eyes will appear closer together. Don’t pull on your eyelid when you are trying to outline it with eyeliner. Instead open up your mouth slightly to relax the muscles of the eyes to make it easier. Pulling on your lid can damage your eyelid, leave you with a crooked eyeliner line, and even pull out some of your eyelashes.

As you start to experiment more with eyeliners, use one that is a complimentary color to the color of your eye. For example, if you have green eyes, look for eyeliner in a dark purple or plum. This will accentuate the color of your eyes much more and make the color more prominent than if you simply used black or brown eyeliner.
If you are looking to have a thick line of liner on your eyes, be sure that you still start out with a thin line and add more as you go. It is much easier to add more liner to your eye rather than having to wash it all off and start again because you added too much. Make the line thicker with each pass of the eyeliner until you have the desired thickness.
Apply a foundation to your eyelid or an eye shadow base to hold the eyeliner onto your eye. With some eyeliner pencils you may notice that the liner begins to wear off after awhile. If you use a foundation or base on your eyelid, your eyeliner will last much longer and will not smear as much as well.
There is no one way to apply eyeliner to your eye. It all depends on the shape of your eye and what look you are going for. Eyeliner can be used for a more natural look for the daytime and then also used to play up a dramatic eye for the nighttime. It is a great beauty tool to have on hand when you want to change your look quickly.
